Carlie’s Darlings began with a single stitch and a leap of faith.

Founded by Carleen Luyt after 19 years of service at Table Mountain Cableway, our story started with a personal crochet challenge that sparked a deeper purpose. What began as a creative hobby quickly blossomed into a social enterprise rooted in empowerment, healing, and sustainability.

As demand for our handmade dolls and accessories grew, Carleen saw an opportunity to uplift others. She began offering free crochet classes to women in her community—many of whom were facing unemployment, emotional hardship, or a lack of opportunity. These workshops became more than skill-building sessions,  they became safe spaces for connection, confidence, and income generation.

Today, Carlie’s Darlings is a growing movement. We craft eco-conscious products, host wellness workshops, and create platforms for women to thrive. Our vision is bold: to establish a permanent creative hub where women not only earn income but are empowered to lead their own mini workshops—multiplying impact across South Africa.
